Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for our film would be teenagers in the UK (preferably London, England). The teenage age group would be the preferable audience for our media product; this is because the protagonist is a teenager. The audience would see him as just a normal teenager like them, helping them to identify with the protagonist, which is how we chose the costume (Vans, jeans and a Top-man Jumper), this representation of teenagers is also represented by the two boys walking through the park, emphasizing their innocence. This theme is stressed through the screen-time the youths are given, we are focused on each character's reactions rather than them as a couple.
Our film would also be orientated towards the male gender, both characters are male; however, as both characters are male, connotations can be made to male aggression and cunning. Our film also appeals to the typical teenage stereotype; the protagonists are inquisitive and intrusive, representing the teenage social group in a negative light. What the teenage protagonist doesn't realise is that his actions will bring the more contemporary social groups into the fray.
“Films under this category can contain mature themes, discrimination, soft drugs, infrequent strong language and moderate violence, sex references and nudity. Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sexual violence may be implied or briefly indicated.”
According to the British Board of Film Classification our film fits the criteria of a 12A age certificate; this is because of the non graphic yet obvious violence and suspense. The definition of the age category fits our film perfectly; there is no foul language and only moderate violence and moderate fear, this is created through the introduction of a possible threat (hence why adult supervision would be preferred). We feel that this age certificate allows us to present our film to the social group that it was originally aimed at.
