What kind of media institution might distribute your media project and why?
A film distribution company is a company which is responsible for the marketing of a film. A distributor also has the power to decide on the release date of a film and even what format it gets released on, such a direct to DVD, straight to television, digital download or a theatrical release. We would describe our product as a mainstream film. We would describe it as mainstream due to its narrative following a general narrative of an innocent on the run thriller. We would consider Lionsgate to be a leading global entertainment company with a strong presence in motion picture production and distribution.  It is because of this that we decided to use it in our product to show to the viewer what they might expect from this opening sequence. Our film follows trends of films such as No Country for Old Men, although distributed by Miramax, this film is similar to ours because of the sub-genre in which they both fall which is “innocent on the run”. One example of a mainstream Lionsgate thriller is “The Eye” this thriller was also classed as a drama and horror film. This film had stars such Jessica Alba in it, demonstrating its mainstream abilities. One of lionsgate’s famous trhillers is the political thriller “The Lincoln Lawyer” which was a mainstream film that attracted a large audience; this is another reason why we believe lionsgate would be an example of what company would distribute our film as it shows their large variety of films they distribute and also their ability to distrabute mainstream films. A mainstream film is a media product which is marketed towards a mass market, we feel that our film would be able to fall into this category as it easily attracts a wide audience. Because of what a mainstream film is, we believe our film is a mainstream film and would be able to be distributed by a wide range of production and distribution companies. Unlike independent films, our film is able to attract most of the population. We think companies such as lionsgate distribute mainstream films well, this is why we have chosen to include this in our product.
However, it could also be be argued that is hypothetically our film could be distributed by a national British distributor that have distributed other recent British thriller horrors such as Kill List, Eden Lake and The Disappearance of Alice Creed. Although our product presents a lot of qualities of a mainstream film, if it was to be  filmed on a low budget it would be more likely to attract the interest of Optimum Releasing or West End Films and then our film would be released nationally.
